The study of how tools and language were used as ‘signs’ to make violence to farmed nonhumans normal is of particular interest to the Museum. The work on tools below was commissioned from Nasus Y Ram as part of the celebration of 30 years of peace since the Giant Rupture. Alongside making the drawings Y Ram explored the everyday violence of language and tools in relation to controlling through fear, and eating the farmed nonhuman. Because this work is so violent, Y Ram decided to make, as a counter narrative, a paper mache life sized model of a young steer in a relationship of protection and mutual love to stand alongside the drawings.
